I'm a part-time professional photographer specialising in tree, forest and landscape photography. My images have featured in magazines, books, merchandising, and global advertising. I also take photographs for use in my books, such as the 600+ images for The Forest Guide series, and the images for the RSPB Trees of the British Isles.
My images have been selected for various competitions, exhibitions, publications, and products including:
Luxury skincare brand Temple Spa - marketing campaign
AramcoWorld – feature
Royal Photographic Society (RPS) - national touring exhibition 2025
Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2014 – shortlisted image
The Guardian newspaper
Woodland Trust merchandise
I work with medium format equipment to create very high quality images to suit a wide range of commercial applications, printing and for exhibitions. For book fieldwork I tend to shoot with micro four thirds (MFT) equipment using Panasonic Lumix photography equipment as I find this highly portable, especially when working in remote locations. The small and lightweight format means it's possible to carry a camera body and several lenses on a long trek, along with other hiking gear.
I always capture in RAW format and post-process my images using Adobe Lightroom.
As a professional forester and chartered environmentalist, I offer substantial knowledge and understanding in the way that I capture and describe my images. I always record the species of tree in my photographs and make detailed notes about habitat, landscape, and associated biodiversity.
I sell prints and license images for commercial use, and occasionally undertake commission work for clients. If you have seen an image that you are interested in, or wish to discuss a collaboration, please contact me. Contact me ›
